Since 2000, International Music Forum Trenta has been held at the Information Centre of the Triglav National Park in Trenta, under the auspices of Wiener Philharmoniker (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra). The forum was started by Prof Alfred Staar, first-violin player in the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra since 1961. Professor Staar has been giving violin lessons since 1968. Many of his students are members of Austrian and international orchestras, and 35 violinists and concert masters play in the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a devouted fan and long-time visitor to the Trenta valley, Alfred Staar felt the desire to show his beloved valley to the world. He combined his wish with his work as a teacher and organised a 10-day study seminar for talented students of stringed instruments. Alfred Staar's idea won the interest and sponsorship of Vienna-based Bank Austria Creditanstalt, which now invites students from 40 countries to come to Trenta and attend Master classes.
Participants of the International Music Forum Trenta come from a variety of countries: Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulagria, Japan, the USA, Serbia & Montenegro, France, Netherlands, Spain, Belarus, Poland and South Korea.
Forum classes are led by prominent musicians and teachers of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra: Prof. Steude, Prof. Götzel, Prof. Hertzer, Prof. Frohn, Prof. Rentsch, Prof. Šetena and Prof. Landerer.
At the end of the Forum, students and teachers hold two traditional concerts. The chamber concert is in a very acoustic church of St Mary's in Polje near Bovec. The soloist concert, an opportunity for students to present the work done during the Master classes, is always played at the Trenta Lodge.
