In Agony by Miroslav Krleža is the second play in the Glembay cycle, together with Messrs. Glembay and Leda. The action takes place in 1922 and the main character is Laura, a former noble woman whose once rich and influential husband went bankrupt with the downfall of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the establishment of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. He seeks solace in drink, gambling and love affairs and Laura is left trying to survive working as a seamstress and finding solace in a lover of her own.
